On June 8, 2009, the rabbit community lost another well respected ARBA judge, Brian L. Hartzell, age 31 of Fletcher, Ohio.

In addition to being an ARBA judge, Brian was a well recognized breeder of Jersey Woolies and American Fuzzy Lops. In his high school days, he was active in 4-H exhibiting rabbits and cattle.  He volunteered locally as a 4-H advisor and served as President of the Miami County Rabbit Advisors.

A celebration of Brian’s life was held at 10:00 am Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Lincoln L. Robinson officiating. Visitation was from 4:00-8:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Piqua Education Foundation, 719 E. Ash St., Piqua, OH 45356 or one’s favorite charity. Condolences to the family may also be expressed through

Scholarships forming in Brian Hartzell's Memory
We the members of the Miami County 4-H Advisors have watched our friend Brian Hartzell grow from a 4-H member to an advisor to a judge and to the presidency of our organization.  Brian was passionate about rabbits and the 4-H program, and was an excellent teacher for our youth.  As a tribute, we would like to fund a scholarship in Brian’s name with the proceeds of the entry fees and silent auction at our upcoming show (June 20, 2009 in Troy, Ohio).  We have lost a good friend and judge today.  Please join us at the show, and please pass the word to any and all of our fellow rabbit breeders.

Karen Hackett, Show secretary; Bonnie Rapp, President, MCRA; Rachel Whitted, Vice President, MCRA; Kathy Kirchner, Secretary, MCRA; Bobbie Stang, Treasurer, MCRA
The American Fuzzy Lop Rabbit Club would like to express thier condolances to the family of Brian Hartzell for their loss. Brian has been a member of the AFLRC since 1992 and achieved both Charter and Master Breeder status.  He was active with our youth members, including judging the AFL National Shows and holding informational sessions for the youth.

The American Fuzzy Lop Rabbit Club is taking donations in Brian's memory into their Lois Trump/Brian Hartzell Youth Scholoarship Fund.  Lois adored Brian and visa versa.
